Rare colored nightmares wont gain skills after fighting pirates

My black and white nightmare wont gain in wrestling after training on pirates. This is the second rare coloured nightmare that did this. The last one wouldn't gain tactics  after training on pirates. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

So what I did to fix this bug was to release the pet and re tame it. This lowered the skills and they started training again. Until I used Whispering and now Tactics has stopped gaining.

That is dangerous. Train on a shadow ele, and depending on the rarity, coukd be a total loss of the pet( think you are talking shiny new nightmares).
Start off on acid slugs, (shoukd raise to about 80ish) then you can 120 on a shadow ele.

Also, your pet can only gain in skill+ or - 32 points from your target.

Thanks for the info. The nightmare was a total loss, too bad is was a 2 slot too.
