This absolutely does NOT ruin his argument. His post makes clear the purchase of 20 totems is to obtain one of these new mare hues. I understand your point, and actually agree with you, but I think the primary complaint here is more to due with the lack of solid information. With other events we're given a clear start and stop date, so if you are planning to spend real money to prepare, you have a clear time frame to plan around and budget. We are under the assumption this too is a limited time event, but due to the lack of clear information, it is not entirely possible to do the above mentioned. Since the period of this particular event seems to keep extending far beyond what anyone is expecting, I don't think it's entirely unfounded for people to be concerned about potentially spending more money when the event could just up and end without notice and the items they paid for no longer serving the purpose they were purchased for.
Given the popularity of the totems themselves (I know a couple hundred were used on Chessy alone, so as far as I can tell, BS made bank off them), I also don't feel it's entirely unfounded for people to raise the concern that the devs may be being vague and unclear on the end date to further manipulate FOMO and totem sales. The frustrations many may be having are quite understandable in this instance.
