I'm confused about chat. So I join 'General'. Is the stuff I type going into it? How does it work? What do I do?

On EC mine gets messages from players but I never get to listen to the general chat my friends talk about reading on CC. Thinking what you get depends on which client you are on. Actually, based on what they say that might not be such a bad thing if you are on EC.

On ec there's a little chat bubble icon that lets you change channels

at a rough guess I would say you are in the 'help' channel and they are in 'general chat' Try switching channels.

If you are in CC you type a comma and that open blue text that goes into the chat channel.
