Any Reason Why Pumpkins & Kits Don't Stack?

I'm sure this must have been asked before. Can pumpkins be made to stack and you'd still have to peel one off the pile to use a kit? Or are the mechanics such the kit would want to carve the whole stack at once?

Would require a rework of how the kits work to make the pumpkins stack. The kits can never stack.
