Maybe I'm not very familiar with US law, but as a lawyer my thought is next:
All of us know how many UO "freeshards" are working all over the world.
Do not they infringe EA and Broadsword's copyrights?
In addition, the most popular of them are in the US.
Is this really legal? Did they buy the franchise for the author's materials UO?
Or someone just need to contact the supervisory authorities or
action in court and thousands of players will have the choice only of the official UO?

No, they're not legal, the only ones who can answer your question is Electronic Arts, take it up with them, it's not a topic for here.
