What makes sword better is.
- captn johns hat.
- more weapons to choose from (bok..etc etc)

but with captain johns hat, you don't have 'real skill' for your swords mastery specials either, correct?

They're both pretty equal templates. The Captn hat does give +20 swords which is useful.
Fencing you would use a war fork for disarm/bleed then switch to kryss for poisoning and AI.
That template in swords you would use a skinning knife for disarm/poisoning then switch to the bokuto for nerve strike.
It's not the template you use, it's how well you play it.

if you have bushido you might as well go swords so you have access to bokuto's.

or not use nerve strike and use fencing you can feint with a leafblade and a latjung or whatever it is has frenzied whirlwind

another fun build is just a plain bushido parry swords dexxer run high dmg good stam and a nice broadsword its super powerful or hatchet
