Why Can't Rogues w/o Ninjitsu Use Smoke Bombs?

I don't know if others have made this argument or not, but why can't a rogues without Ninjitsu use the smoke bombs? I'm not saying take something away from those using Ninjitsu, but why can't a more traditional Rogue class use them too? Seems fitting.

Edit: Just to flesh that out a little more. How about you need 100 hiding and 120 (with gear) stealth and you can use them?

Them hot dern ninjas , messing everything up for everybody, i tell you hwat!

But yeah, I am not a ninja , and I would like to see this also.
#2
I keep wanting to build a ninja. I know 0 about running one, but I need more hours in the day. That said, doesn’t seem unreasonable for both character types to be able to use them.

Can I use ninja skills to steal ?

I wish you’d disappear in a puff of smoke.

So, smoke bombs found in almost every spawn chest from these events are for rogues to bring to ninjas?

You just like to argue for the sake of arguing and get under people’s skin. You often mistake your opinions as facts.

It doesn’t take a big stretch of the imagination to think a rogue might carry smoke bombs in order to make it easier to disappear into the shadows and stealth away.

How is using the smoke bombs FOUND IN THESE CHESTS, that rogues are picking open and stealing from, more far fetched than using the invis potions found in the chests? Rogues aren’t alchemists. How is it more far fetched to use the smoke bombs FOUND IN THE CHESTS more far fetched than casting invisibility spell?

I’m sorry, could you, along with completely ignoring and sidestepping the valid questions I asked, use complete sentences and punctuation so I can try to make sense of your bs? You don’t want to dialogue. You want to needle and be right even when you’re wrong. Bye McDingle

Don't strain your brain, Grimbeard. This information isn't for you. Clearly, if you're unable to answer a few sensible questions regarding rogue loot in these chests, and instead have to completely ignore the questions, you can't be expected to present a cogent argument.

For the powers that be. Smoke bombs are pretty standard fare for rogue class role-play and always have been as far as I know. I'm not saying making this happen for rogues is high on a priority list. I am saying the use of them fits well with a rogue class, and maybe down the road rogues can use what's in the chests they're cracking open at these events.

And I should be able to use the specials on a yumi without bushido?

After reading I've determined you want to be a tinker beggerman thief?  Why not let you poison weapons without poisoning as well?

Shadow Strike was how we did it before Samurai Empire introduced Ninjas/Ninjitsu and Smoke/Egg Bombs. Upon successful hit, Shadow Strike instantly hides you.

It used to be my blacksmith poisoned weapons. Poisoned katanas sold like hotcakes. My smithy could barely keep up with the demand.

The argument was, does using smoke bombs suit the rogue class or not? I’ve proved the point that it does. Logically and historically speaking, using smoke bombs has been a rogue class thing.

You can’t answer the questions I asked because it makes sense a rogue would be able to use the smoke bombs they find in chests. You lost this argument ages ago.

Oh yeah, PlayerSkill, I’d forgotten about that.

I can see your point and as with most UO; things are usually inconsistent lol. That said, for me personally I see smoke bombs as a ninja thing (not a thief thing) because I think about some of the ninja assassin characters from movies and they use smoke bombs...can't really remember any movie characters that used them as thieves (picture George Clooney using in Ocean's Eleven and I just laughed).

I see your point about the smo0ke bombs being in every chest, again valid, but would counter with bandages are also in the chests too....does your thief have healing/anatomy?? Mine doesn't (but does have ninja) so I'd argue the bandages are more out of place than the smoke bombs :P
#24
Yeah, I’m not saying they’re not a ninja thing. I’m saying they’re also very much a rogue thing. I don’t see why they can’t be used by both.
#25
Throw ninjitsu on ur rogue & make ur life easier. Unicorn form to negate poison traps. Wolf form for extra hps on the run. Shadow jump for the mage equivalent of teleport... while staying hidden. Ohh, did I mention to also use smoke bombs ?  😂

Shadow dancer leggings and the new chest piece  frees up 80 points..add the ninja earrings..
#27
There's so many gear pieces nowadays that add Rogue skills, the "Rogue" archetype is bloated with them. Shadow Dancer Leggings gives +20 Stealing/+20 Stealth. The new Shadeweaver's Embrace gives +20 Stealing/+20 Stealth. Burglar's Bandana gives +10 Snooping/+10 Stealing/+10 Stealth. Royal Guard Investigator Cloak gives +20 Stealth. Cloak of Silence (Robe) gives +10 Stealth. Shadow Master's Talisman gives +10 Stealth/+10 Ninjitsu. Feudal Ghostwalkers give +5 Stealth/+5 Hiding. Solaria's Secret Poisons give +10 Ninjitsu.

That's a total of +10 Snooping/+50 Stealing/+95 Stealth/+20 Ninjitsu/+5 Hiding (180 total skill points) just from gear. Not even counting Ring/Bracelets. Most "Rogues" nowadays, can barely have any real skill at all for their template to work.

Thanks very much for taking the time to put this information together for me @PlayerSkillFTW . That was kind of you and it’s much appreciated.

Truth is I do use some of those items but I’m combining them with items that help with luck as well. I guess it’s a rogue/luck suit.

Luck helps with finding the Uber rare drops in chests. Or so the publish notes say.

I started this thread conversationally. More just out of curiosity and perhaps to see if the idea might be taken into consideration, knowing that smoke bombs are traditionally known to be something you might find in a rogue’s bag of tricks.

The thread turned into a pissing contest. I know the mods work hard here. And I know the population that posts here is pretty low. Certainly compared to how UO-centric boards used to be. I’d pay money to be able to look back at the old Crossroads boards archives, started during UO’s beta days. I wonder if anyone has those?

Anywho, it’s not like there weren’t any a’holes like mcdummy there too. But it was a rich environment with lots and lots of creative input being offered. And a lot of humor. So, the chronic trolls were drowned out pretty easily. Here the trolls are louder and post more prolifically than anyone else. At least it feels that way.

It’s not that big a deal for me in terms of it scaring me off or keeping me from proving my points. Most trolls are virtually unarmed in a duel of wits, it’s no different here. But it’s exhausting and a vexation to the spirit that I don’t need. And I know for a fact that crap they dish out does keep others from lending their voices here.

All that aside, I thank you and others who made valid points here in this thread without trolling or needling or being snide. If I can get past my aggravation at competing with players running chains of fighter characters that have divided up a few rogue skills on their builds I might jump back in on this event. Right now I think I need a break.

You can't just say anyone who disagree with you a troll

You can't just say anyone who disagree with you a troll
I don’t do that. I’ve never told posters, who simply have a difference of opinion, that they are trolls.

Are you thick? Most that contributed in this thread didn’t agree with me. Or at least expressed it would be easier to just rebuild and re-equip my character. You’re the only one in this thread I’m calling a troll.

You’re a chronic troll, that verges on stalking other posters in an effort to get your trolling jabs in. You’re often abusive in how you approach others here, often offering nothing to a thread other than an insult. You’re a detriment to productive sharing and civil discourse on this site.

I fully admit I don’t always remain civil. Very little of what you have to say here compels me to remain civil with you. I give as I get.

Please, get your last word in and run along. You are tedious and begin to bore me.

Considering the smoke bombs success rate is equal to your hiding skill, ninjitsu should not be required to use them.      Stealth shouldn't be required either, because stealth would inherently makes them more effective, instead of essentially being a quick invis to those who have them.

I'm pretty sure (I haven't tested this in quite some time so it may have changed) but, Auto-stealth doesn't kick in until your Real Stealth skill  => 40.0,  so this means, if you don't want to sit still for 8-10 seconds after you hide, before you can 'use skill -stealth' to move without being revealed. you can't really benefit from any more than 80.0 skill modified points in stealth skill.   of course other skill bonuses would still help free up points for whatever..

I also feel like Ninjitsu is very underpowered for PvM, and even in PvP you basically have Animal Form (to escape dismount), Focus Attack for a quick splintering weapon proc & Death Strike. the rest of the Ninjitsu spells seem completely useless in both pvp & pvm.

Before they nerfed ninja due to dog archer in pvp it was powerful it's why I'm offensively defensive about. Strange that you can not do crap in a form except vampiric embrace..
