Stealing (skill): Is the real skill value ever checked or does it not matter?

I feel like I've heard both yes and no in the past. The most recent discussions I've seen essentially boiled down to "anything that is NOT a mastery skill isn't impacted by real skill".

@Community Manager  - Are you able to confirm this? I feel like others are divided on this with some saying real skill matters and others saying it doesn't.

I'm messing around with my thief to try to maximize his skill points. I am able to fit in the shadowdancer legs & burglar bandanna into my suit (+30 stealing & stealth), but I'm a little nervous to drop my stealing from 120 real skill down to 90 if it's going to limit or impact any sort of stealing I could potentially do.

It has never impacted me.
I cannot think of any scenario where it would impact.
Having said that, my Stealing luck on events has been diabolical, and maybe that is the reason!

I was around 110 real skill, down to ~65 real stealing.. i've noted no difference when stealing dungeons artifacts, stealing from harpies, stealing from a pack horse nor stealing from NPC chests.

PS: both case I was at 120 stealing with items.

I may be wrong but i think VvV sig stealing requires x amount of real.

If I remember right you needed 120 real skill to steal the totems out of chests during the last event.

I think both incorrect - I do both with very low real.
60 in fact.

Yep I was incorrect, ignore me.

Let's hope it stays that way for the upcoming events that involve thieves, as I probably won't have my thief anywhere near 100-120 real skill, and will have to make due with jewelry/etc.

It depends on the implementation. 🙂

Thanks for the response; can you expand on that? Do you mean it depends on the skill or depends specifically for the stealing skill?

She means "if the devs code it to require real skill instead of modified'.

I'm almost 100% sure there is no content currently that requires stealing to be real skill instead of modified (I could be wrong though, I really haven't done a ton of stealing).

Correct, it depends on the event or activity that is put in. 🙂

Thank you

@Mariah - Not sure if this would fall into your realm or something the CM should do, but is there are running list of what event/activities require real skill vs modded? I feel like it's a bit cruel to have players (especially new ones) play a guessing game on the who/what/when of when they would need something like 120 REAL stealing vs not. Especially if 95-100% of the content does not require real stealing and someone drops it down to 90 only to randomly "can't steal this" if/when they come across something rare that does require it.
