Unbearable lag at the event on Atlantic.

I just wanted to add this here. Every single person in my guild is suffering from unbearable lag on Atlantic at the moment. We can barely take a step.

@Kyronix will you guys update Atlantic to the new hardware anytime soon?
Thanks.

Lag is unbelievable at Atlantic. I suggest activating multiple towns depending on the number of participants so that servers are not overloaded

To best of my knowledge 4 people, including me, from my guild gave up on the event for now. We can't take a single step.

They should have at least 3 towns on Atlantic. We really cannot even take a single step.

Which town were you battling in?

I was at Skara before I quit. Yew had less lag. But Skara was unbearable.

Kill two birds with one stone and just turn it on in all Atlantic cities.

I am at Tram Skara and lag is still horrendous

I think I am giving up for the next few days... I was looking forward to this event due to all of the rewards but today left a very sour taste in my mouth. This reminds me the last few weeks of Tokuno event. I was having similar lag problem back then. My guildmates were having lag problem but not as bad as I was (I have been in Europe for the last 2 years.). But, Skara was so bad an hour or so ago, we just gave up.

I will play New World for few days, and then maybe check out this event again when I am calm.

I'm on Atlantic now in Skara, yes it does need tweaking.
The lag is bad.

#9
Thank you for the reports - we are investigating.

In past events, I've noted two things:
1. There is hanging/hestitation at or when artifact drops are generated.
2. There is the same hanging/hestitation when monsters are teleported to a player.

It feels like the UO server is taking a heavy weight lock around these operations.  Hopefully not doing something costly while the lock is held. Just a thought.

Also, invasion takes place only in: Britain, Trinsic, Vesper, Minoc, Yew, Skara, Jhleom, Nujelm (I've checked Baja/Izumo/Origin for many days)

But NOT New Magincia. Why? What's in New Mag? -- Nujelm is not a virtue town.

Ahh, we need to make way for the SoT Scripters to run the trader quests ofc!

😂

Holy shit, I am literally moving around like a turn-based game even just messing around in my house nowhere near a city. This is completely unplayable. It's not even primetime yet.

Yeah, I think something related to event is going on with all of the servers. I move quarter speed at Trammel than Malas. I was really looking forward to this event. It feels so sour...

I think this is more about the Pet market being at New Mag. They probably did not want to stop people from shopping for pets. WBB is not part of the event for similar reason, turn in guy is there...

Came here to echo completely unplayable. I got excited when I heard new patch but cant play at what is effectively 1fps. I mean actual render speed is there but any input or interaction takes forever. It is unplayable.
#16
Played a little on Great Lakes this morning.  Just moderate lag with fewer players.   As usual targeting is all screwed up or not working at all.  Spawn rate seems about right for the number of players that were there.

Too much spawn.  😂  😂

Lol, last night a mob was hitting me from half a screen away while I was taking 2 steps forwards and 2 steps backwards towards it. I think I died 5 times in 15 minutes. It was mostly the inevitable lag dance... 2 steps forward and 2 steps backwards. Nothing more nothing less. All stationary while charging full speed ahead :p

Currently unplayable for me on Atlantic. The suggestion of multiple towns might be a quick fix @kronix ;

The event would be great if for the lag. It's very dynamic which means you need to be moving but the amount of players means you can't

Reference

Trinsic.
Nujelm
Skara
Minoc

I didn't get a single drop in 2 hours and gave up after spending that whole 2 hours dying and restocking.

I had lots of fun with this event on test and a really excited about it.

Have you tried the standard UO client?
I have heard the lag is only for people of non-official clients.

#21
Europa Felucca could use more spawn please.

The event is running like a dream, but it is a bit sparse for mobs.
#22
And I played Atlantic all night, they have enough spawn, but unbearable lag.
The last one, Yew at 4:30am in the morning seemed to improve.

I use the Web browser client as approved. Its terribly laggy on atl.

ATL prime time last night. Only had time for two events yesterday and briefly tried a 3rd. Nujelm, Brit, Skara.

Nujelm was not satisfying due to spread of spawn and unreachable mobs. Lag was fine.

Brit was swarmed and quite fun. Some lag but not awful.

Skara was unplayable due to lag.

All on EC. I suspect web client will struggle more. Some problem areas but should be a decent event once things are ironed out.

We had to develop a 3D image rendering / AI software for one of our clients. It had to work on a browser. I was not personally involved but I was in daily meetings. From what I remember anything done on the browser has only 1 thread that can interact with outside and the browser. This became a huge limitation for our needs. In the end, we had to do the AI part at backend, using python/pytorch, and pass the data back and forth.

I dont have personal experience but the browser ClassicUO is probably slower than the PC clients.

You call that 'enough spawn'? There was 1 monster every 4 screens ...

Too much spawn on Europa, give it to Atlantic instead.

This doesn't appear to be the case, but in any event, I'll just piss off and play a different game before I use one of the garbage first-party clients.

Where in Europa did you see too much spawn? I took a quick look this morning, it was a ghost town.

Lag continues to be a problem at Atlantic although it has improved somewhat compared to yesterdays turn based UO. I repeat my suggestion to activate multiple cities.

(Atlantic) What did we learn about personal SPACE? These guys just stand there and cover up the NPC. You can't SEE/DRAG its HP Bar; and there's no auto menu-up as you go near.

CTRL + SHIFT
Then right click on the names clutting the screen until you see a yellow nameplate.

Day 3 and it is all laggy at Atlantic front. At this point just activate all the towns all the time. Uo clearly does not have the necessary infrastructure to house entire population in a single town.

Something is wrong with these towns, and the fact they're on large subservers with hundreds/thousands of houses with thousands of items inside each of them, NPCs, neutral animals spawning, etc. surely doesn't help reduce lag. Did you do Shogun ToT this time last year? Winter Spur had more people in a tiny area with more spawn and it wasn't as bad. I'd guess if this ToT was in some unused area of the map on it's own subserver all to itself it would be smooth as silk.

I'm 99% sure the larger hashed lines on this map are subservers:

Gee I wonder why Trinsic, Skara, Nujelm are all laggy (well they all are but especially those 3). It's all one subserver, look what one server has to handle on Altantic!
#34
It's not perfect but it's much better than it was yesterday. We'll see what happens in primetime.

I'm so happy to hear that. I won't have time to check the event today, let's keep the fingers crossed that everything will be running smooth by the weekend!

#36
I'm playing from Europe and have no lags today. Thanks for fixing this!

It's sort of bearable in Atlantic weekday primetime. Sort of. It's basically a dial-up simulator.

On the bright side I don't see any big obvious swarms of multi-boxers, so that's nice.

Spawn rate is too low, it's less of an invasion and more like hordes of players running through the streets eradicating everything on sight. People in chat are complaining more or less constantly. I'd say add more spawn, but it's pretty clear they're running at the limits of their infrastructure.

There need to be two cities under invasion per cycle, on two different subservers. That may well be beyond the scope of what changes can be enacted upon an event already in progress, but in any case and for future reference, maybe stop designing events that send the entire population of Atlantic to a single subserver.

Don't know/care.

Anyway I rolled back into an invaded city around 11:30pm and things seemed to working just about perfectly. Good amount of people around, lag was minor, spawn was adequate but not overwhelming.

We'll see how the weekend goes but the lag is at least survivable now, so far. I think the spawn scaling doesn't really keep up at the high end though.

There is no lag at fel but there is also very little spawn so it involves too much running.

After some more testing the super studder lag is better, but, it still seems like it slows down quite a bit towards the end of the spawn, even off peak hours. It's not smooth by any means. It still needs improvement/tweaking if possible.
#42
At some point, there will be diminishing returns due to the population of Atlantic.  While I agree with the changes they made to address it the first time, you will most likely have to live with some lag.

#43
Apart from one hour i farmed during off hours i was experiencing mild lag at day 4. Hopefully situation improves.
#44
Lag is still unbearable. I regret my decision to ask for town invasion.
