Unable to stay logged in to forum

I’m not sure why but I am not able to stay logged into the forums on my computer. I sign in and then when I change the page I am again signed out, I can repeat this multiple times without success. It also prevents me from posting from my computer. This started a few days before the weekend so I don’t believe it’s related to the expired certificate. I have cleared my cookies which didn’t help. I’m using Microsoft edge which is up to date. Also, I can stay logged in on my phone which is the only way I can currently post. Any help? Thanks
#1
it has something to do with the profile, I went to my profile and then messages and then clicked on my most recent post, all while hitting "sign in" after each click. when I went to the last post it stayed logged in. No idea why it is doing that, could be a windows thing, a Windows 11 thing, or even quit possibly just a Vic thing.

I don't think it's a windows 11 thing (or Vic thing) because I'm using windows 7 on this PC and had the same issue. I also ended up staying signed in after I clicked around things on my profile page (clicking sign in after each "refresh" page).

Thanks for the advice but even after going through every profile page I could find and serval old posts still nothing. Also, I tried chrome and had the same problem. Only place I seem to be able to stay logged in is on my phone.

Same for me.
#5
One question, @Merus and @Riner. Have you tried logging out on your phone and following the steps on your computer that we mentioned? I forgot to mention I did that.
#6
I wasn’t logged in on my phone when this started but I have logged out of it since and it made no difference. I’m going to try another computer in my house in a bit see if that one has the same problem or not. The phone and computer are sharing the same network so should eliminate that from the equation.
#7
Well, @keven2002 got logged out and cannot log in again, so the issue is still ongoing @Mariah
#8
Tried another computer same problem so it’s not computer or browser specific. Has to be something on the forums end.

Agreed.
#10
No. I have two accounts in the forum here (this one is the more active) and both are working just fine with Windows 11 and Chrome.
#11
So far I've been able to log back in daily after that first day, I can only suggest keep trying 🙁 The devs are aware.
#12
I have started to experience this issue as well.  For me only Edge is affected.  I have no problem with Firefox.
#13
Not sure what changed but I went through some notifications and found after that I could stay logged in. ~shrugs~
#14
Update: I also have the problem on my Android phone while using Chrome. But not with Firefox on the phone.
#15
I read the notice that they believe this is a browser issue however, all my browsers have been up to date, and it is happening to people in many different browsers. Both of these conditions would preclude it being a browser issue.

Agreed. and I had the Problem, but now don't. i have logged out naturally twice now (24hr log off) and have connected and stayed connected with the same browser i had issues with. no issue with any browser at this point.
#17
Was fun well it lasted but I’m back to not being able to stay logged in on the computer. Have to say I’m perplexed.
#18
@Mariah @Rorschach

It just hit me again and i fixed again, this way.

Signed in, hit my Avatar, signed in, clicked Comments, signed in, clicked on the top comment and did not have to sign in.  it is currently keeping me logged in. I have updated (actually re-installed and checked update status again) Chrome. hope this helps figure it out.

#19
@Mariah ;

I have still had issues logging in across multiple machines / browsers / etc.

I did what Vic suggested above which didn't work exactly as he listed but was a step in the right direction (for me at least). I kept clicking sign in every time and followed Vics steps but what worked for me was when I logged in and then clicked Preferences in the top right corner (that always seems to remain logged in even since these issues started) and then I clicked back on my profile and it remained logged in.

Might have just been random, not sure but I guess we will see tomorrow when it logs me out and I need to try to log back in.
#20
Well same worked for me, logged in, went to preferences, back to my profile, and now back logged in. Don't understand what the cause is but that seems to be the working solution for now.
#21
Yall should use a professional browser such as Silk. It does not have this issue.  😂
#22
It might be helpful to the devs if people included which browsers they are having problems with. For me it is Chrome and Edge. Both are chromium based.
Also for me Firefox is working fine and it is not chromium based.
#23
mine is chrome and edge as well
#24
update everything ! might help ?

Everything is updated on my work laptop so I don't think that is the reason.

I might have to download that and give it a try if I'm unable to log back in after I get the 24hr bump here soon.
#28
not sure why but i have always got booted after a few hours or sometimes 24 hours but nothing like what you all getting
#29
Everyone has to re-log every 24 hours - even me!
#30
Sounds like @Larisa is still having issues getting in (and staying in). I still had issues this morning myself but using the "preference" strategy to click around seems to work better for getting the login to stick.

@Kyronix / @Bleak - Any idea what the issue is?
#31
Try FireFox

It quit letting my @Victim_Of_Siege account stay logged in, but as you can see, this one does. Kinda rules out the browser idea . . .
#33
I went ahead and downloaded FireFox which is currently working. So a temp fix for now at least.
#34
Sounds like another person is unable to stay logged in (based on the other site's comment) here and using FireFox isn't working for everyone ( @Larisa has tried this).

I'm sure I'll have to attempt a 10 step process myself in another hour or so if I want to log back in.

@Kyronix / @Bleak - Can we have this looked into or maybe some confirmation that it's already being looked into?
#35
We’ve been advised it’s a cookie issue mostly impacting Chrome. It’s being looked into but don’t have an ETA when Google or Vanilla will have a fix.

Thanks for the Info. I was able to Clear Cache and Cookies for "All Time" (i love that phrase) and can log in and stay logged in.  It logged me out naturally this afternoon and i was able to log in and stay (so far) no idea if it will "corrupt" again or not, but we will see.

That is not true.  I have been logged on for going on 4 days now without relogging  Windows 10 / Chrome
#38
Logs me out every 24 hours on all 3 devices that I use.
#39
me every 3 to 6 hours sometimes 24 rare its rng
#40
Is there anyway to change the settings so that it keeps us logged in?
#41
Logged me out and i had to dance the hokey Pokey again to stay logged in. so clearing cache and cookies lasted 2 days.

I'm going to assume it really is a site cookie issue because I can log in after i obliterate it. then  it starts to corrupt slowly. a bit soon for too much speculation though

#47
I have to admit I've grown tried of dealing with this issue and joined team FireFox
#48
Maybe they can ask one of the grandkids to help fix
#49
I have done nothing, still on Chrome....logged in this morning and didn't want to jinx myself lol so waited until now to post. I logged in, went to a few threads....held my breath...closed the tab and didn't log back in until just now...didn't have to log back in though I was still logged in from this morning.

So we'll see!

#50
Back to unable to log in on the computer this morning, no matter if I put my left leg in, or my right arm out. I'll shake it all around and see what happens.
#51
Wondering if anyone else is still having issues staying logged in? As of today I was still unable to stay logged in on Chrome/Edge (everything updated).

Only reason I am logged in now is because I tried using FireFox but maybe it's only me having this trouble and it's no longer an issue; hence why there has been zero follow ups about Chrome/Vanilla being updated by the Dev team?

Same here only staying logged in using Firefox still.

Still having issues.
#54
I still have to do the Nekkid Hokey-Pokey to log in on Chrome. FF is fine, along with Edge.
#55
Sounds like @Kyronix must be shorting Google stock this month? Forcing people to use FF? >:)
#56
Just wanted to post again that this is STILL an issue for some people that aren't able to log in to this forum to post that they are STILL having problems logging in.

@Kyronix - What's the deal? I'm still not able to stay logged in myself for anything but FireFox. Are there any updates on what's going on or possible solutions (that aren't a random clicking of buttons/links)?
#57
The problem is being worked on.  We are told there are several moving parts that need to be addressed and our back end team is taking care of it as priorities allow. Using Firefox is the best work around at the moment.
#58
Thank you

It's getting better, I only have to do the Locomotion, instead of the Nekkid Hokey-Pokey to satay logged in.
#62
Last night's maintenance on the broadsword account page seems to have fixed the issue for me of not being able to log in to the forum using Edge.

Has it been fixed for other people as well?
#63
I still do not know what the deal is I am running Windows 10 and Chrome and I have never had a problem logging in that is if the forums are up and running LOL
#64
Nope still isn't working for me on Chrome.

Chrome. I have to log in, go to inbox then back to out to stay logged in. Welcome to UO
#66
My phone works correctly now.  It was the only device I had trouble with. I use Chrome and Silk.
#67
I am now using Chrome again to log in to the forums and so far it looks good.

Vendor search is working again, sovereigns is back, everything is good! 🙂

@Kyronix - Can we get an update on this? It's been several months and I'm still unable to stay logged in (along with many others) unless I'm using FireFox. It was a fine work around for a month while things were resolved but 3 months later people shouldn't be forced to use a different browser simply to interact on the forums. This is literally the only webpage I use it for; I have no issues with any other website I use.
#70
It's still in the queue to be addressed.  I have no update on the timetable.
#71
Thanks @Kyronix ;, just to add, I get logged out every 24 hours and I use Chrome.  When I log in, I have to relog multiple times.  If I refresh the page I get logged out.
#72
@Kyronix - Any update on this since the last update a month ago? People are still having issues (as well as myself) staying logged in to this site. It's been almost 6 months now, surely there is some sort of diagnosis at this point?

Until the issue is fixed, can the settings be changed to stop automatically logging people out after 24 hours? I'm able to stay logged in to several other websites (including Stratics) for weeks/months without needing to use credentials so I know it's possible to do.

In the meantime, perhaps to help whoever is looking at the issue (and those who cannot stay logged in):

I have more success staying logged in when I "Sign in" from whatever page. I have found more success clicking the Sign In URL at the bottom of a thread rather than the blue button on the left. Then click the little silver circle under my profile name (almost looks like a grey chaos shield) which is for "account options". From there I click on preferences which will keep you logged into the site 100% of the time. From there I click one of the options like Signature settings (which again keeps you logged in) and then click my profile name. If you don't see the blue sign in box to the left then it worked and you have stayed logged in (this combo has worked for me the past 4 days first try after it fails to keep me logged in from Chrome).
#73
@keven2002 - The fix is going to require an upgrade to the underlying forum software.  It has to do with how Chrome is handling a specific secure cookie.  Other browsers allow it, while Chrome does not.  This is not a critical issue as there is a work-around (use Firefox or Safari if you are on an iOS device). I have no update on the timetable for the upgrade, this is something that gets addressed outside the UO Team.

I am sure Kyronix will take a deep dive into the issue.

Just an FYI to anyone that doesn't want to be forced to use FireFox on their Windows machine.

I think I have figured out a series of steps that will keep you logged in without random clicking of "Sign in". I have successfully followed these steps the past 5 days to remain logged in when I'm auto signed out.
  1. I've been using the blue sign in button on the left to sign in first and then clicking on a thread (which logs me out). I'm not sure if this step is needed, I'll try skipping this step tomorrow.
  2. Click on any thread and scroll to the bottom where you will see the URL "Sign in". Click that.
  3. You are now logged in (but will likely sign out if you click another link). Click the little silver circle up at the top left under your profile name which is your "Account Options".
  4. Select "Preferences" from this list.
  5. This brings you into your account preferences screen where you will be still logged in. Anything under preferences keeps you signed in. Click on the "Signature Settings".
  6. Don't need to change anything - just click the "Back to profile" link at the top right corner.
  7. This will bring you back to your profile page where you should be still logged in, if it worked. If it didn't work you would see the blue sign in box on the left side (following the steps above I haven't had an issue though).
  8. Click the "Home" link above your profile name and you should be signed in for the next 24 hours.

“It’s a feature.

you log out of the game every hour to save your pet from dying and log back in.

same with forum

Please first fix so that people can stay logged into game before forum”

Not sure how relevant this is, but I just logged in with Chrome, navigated to Europa forum, opened the thread I wanted to post on and submitted my post without having to re-log. My pc has windows 11.

Just an FYI that my step by step "fix" worked for me for about a week but stopped working the other day. So I guess it's back to the random clicking when using Chrome if you're having trouble.

Just an FYI on this that I've been able to log in with Chrome the last couple days and stay logged without needing to do anything else. Not sure if something was fixed or if it's just the RNG of staying logged in.
