Question on stream books...

Hey guys!!

So recently my computer has kicked the bucket (don’t worry, she was an old gal
who traversed many virtual miles with me.) Unfortunately it will be a few months until I can save enough for a new pc. Most of my games I don’t really care about or I can access them via another console, UO however I cannot. And being the avid and addicted player I am, I have an itch I just can’t scratch

so I’ve been looking into cheap alternative options get my UO fix and I stumbled across some ASUS and HP stream books. Computing wise they’re more than enough to handle the classic UO client and they all seem to be under $200 which is always a plus. I’m just worried that with Windows 10 S installed it just turns it into a glorified chrome book and wouldn’t be able to actually run UO Classic, but maybe I’m wrong and it can??

Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Make sure you can connect directly with a modem, some of those are WiFi only

Thanks for the response! Yes that’s a big draw back to these little stream books, everything is only wireless.

my biggest worry is the OS will block it from being installed. Like Chromebooks have the computing power to run UO but you can’t install it on the ChromeOS. all these little buggers come installed with Windows 10-S which is like a safe, lite version of Windows10 made for phones and tablets, so I’m worried the OS itself won’t let UO install

My experience with Chromebooks and the like is that they are never as powerful as their specs indicate they should be. My daughter, my wife, my sister and my sister-in-law have all used one and every one of them bit the bullet and upgraded to a better laptop.

If you're looking at spending $200-300 for one, I think you would be better off putting that toward your computer.

I've had good luck, buying grade B and C, refurbished laptops from NEWEGG. Last one I bought was an HP, WIN10 PRO, for $149.

Be careful as well, as even many laptops sold don't even have the hard drive space to hold a game like UO. I thought I was being nice and getting one for my little grand niece and they could not even update the system as there was no room. I should have know better!

I do envy you, enjoy the forced vacation!

I just went to that site and search just (Scratch and Dent) and there are some good choices to tide you over!
