Gardening Cross Pollination Question

So I tried to cross pollinate some red, yellow, and blue barrel cactus and ended up with a random selection of not barrel cactus seeds. I know "cactus" has a weird cross pollination thing going on involving spider trees and hops.

My question is will I have a similar issue with tri-barrel cactus and prickly-pear cactus? I know I can cross those two to get the barrel cactus. But getting the bright reds, yellows, and blues might be an issue if there is an issue with cross pollination of same types and colors.

This is an issue I've been having with my mission of trying to collect every seed type...

All the cacti seem to have strange results nowadays, and won't create the secondary or bright colours normally through cross pollination.

I've even tried using other plants to create certain cacti, with the same random results. Though I did get one cross that created a prickly pear awhile ago, I unfortunately didn't write it down and can't remember what I crossed.
