STEALTH : "You fail in your attempt to move unnoticed"

I tried looking for a Stealth online calculator and reading about about stealth info in UO but could find little info on this topic...

I know that with 120 Stealth one can walk 24 steps before the skill check (for running it is half that, so, 12 steps...) yet, I cannot find, with 100.0 Hiding, what is the minimum Stealth skill level (using plain Leather or Mage armor) that one can stealth without running into the "You fail in your attempt to move unnoticed" message that unhides the stealther...

I need to know, because I am trying to save up some skill points for other skills so, while I want to have a reliable stealthing in that I won't hit a failed skill check yet, I do not want to overdo it and use too many stealth skill points unless I have to do it...

So, what is the minimum Steath skill level that guarantees, wearing plain leather and mage armor, to always pass the stealth skill check when having also 100.0 hiding ?

When stealthing through Sanctuary for the Spellweaving quest I had 97.5 Hiding and 82.4 Stealth and never got that message with just leather armor.

Also, I suspect that something might be not working right with the Stealth skill check...

I am at about 75.0 skill level (100.0 Hiding) and walking stealthing in Town to train the skill up... dressing the same exact armor, walking up and down at the exact same location (Sweet Dreams Inn in Britain, the upper floor corridor in between bedrooms) with 1 NPC in one room with door closed, and my Ball of Knowledge kept shifting, when walking up and down to raise the skill, in between Challenging and Optimal first, back and forth and this, not just once or twice but multiple times and for a long time... and then, as I gained some skill, it did the same swapping skill check difficulty in between Optimal and Easy...

Same armor worn, same location walked, same NPC around, no changes whatsoever to the environment and yet, the Stealth skill check difficulty kept going back and forth...

This should not happen with all variables due to the environment and the armor worn all the same, throughout the training... yet, I had it keeping happening and not just between Challening and Optimal but also between Optimal and Easy as I gained some skill.

This, tells to me that something is not working right in regards to the Stealth skill checks mechanics... these changes should not happen "unless", the Stealth skill checks were to be subject to the dreaded game RNG which, I sure hope, this is NOT the case because as we have all experienced, the RNG is way too unpredictable and with skills, players want instead, and understandably to my opinion, predictability.

Which it only helps partially since, obviously, I need it for the Event environment where there might be some MoBs having a Detect Hidden which, when compared to my character's stealth, might reveal my character which is what I would prefer not to happen...

Therefore, as in regards to the Current, ongoing Event, what level of Stealth should I aim to have to avoid failing the skill check so as not to be at a disadvantage when compared to a MoB's being in the Dungeon Detect Hidden skill ?

@popps Popps, here is my template in Real skill for this event with the dragons. it get's revealed maybe once a day and i come out of the dungeons loaded. buy the pieces with stealth you need and play the game. with the suit bonus the stealth is still only 105 and again, I have no issues getting maps and other items from a chest.

To answer a question asked on my youtube channel, the 'very easy' 'too easy' messages are not specific to EC, they are from the Crystal Ball of Knowledge, telling me the difficulty in detect hidden skill. You can use them to narrow down where to look (when it comes up "too challenging" or "optimal", that's not the chest, that's one of those darn infiltrators! beware!)

Popps I've posted my suit suit with luck and skills and lrc do you not read what people reply?

Go 120 stealth and drop whatever stupid skill your trying to work in there and try and see for yourself people answer you and you don't read it... My God you ask so many questions!

It's progress compared to the last post.. he's looking to optimize his luck via Stealth.


PS: I did the 75 stealth test.. all medable armor.. I'm pretty sure I even swap the medable iron gorget for leather and was still failing to stay hidden 100%.. From memory at 82,5 I was at 100%.. I rounded up to 85.

Maybe I did not tried to swap the iron gorget for a leather.. being tilt to train back stealth from 75 to ~85.. but pretty sure I did and was failing to stealth; messing around yew wood (the only thing that could have ruin the test would have been wild life, I cannot imagine a tweety bird jinxing my 75 stealth shadow jump.)

TL;DR 75 stealth was totally not viable for me, unlike 85.

Stealth checks armor weight as well. I haven't cared enough to do extensive testing to see no fails on every level but 75 may be perfectly fine with a suit of 1-2 stone armor. One 3-5 weight med piece can ruin the entire no fail level. 

If he would listen i'd give him an easy 10 stealth but he won't so he can figure it out.

Hang on... so Mage Armor means nothing when it comes to Stealth ?

It is "weight" of the worn item the discriminant that make a stealth skill check fail or not ?

I wished there was a Stealth calculator online so that one could figure out what would be the minimum Stealth skill in order to be 100% guaranteed that the skill check would not fail depending on the armor worn...

So, if one is wearing 1 or more pieces that weight 3-5 stones what would then be the minimum Stealth skill that would still guarantee a 100% succesful skill check when stealthing ?

Mage/Med armor is required but weight also checks.

I just said i haven't tested no fail levels. YOU'LL have to do that yourself. 

Since you've decided to listen for once, animal form rabbit or rat gives a free 10 stealth. Finish stealthing THEN you can ferret for the free stealing.

Stealth and camping are my least favorite skills, but I know you wear leather while stealthing.  

I use a guy because he has personal bless deeds for all his items, I take him to Fel IDOCs and grab things.

I sort of wonder if weight is the main check. Hell we have brittle leather with up to 50 stones.

I am not sure it would be the weight because I can stealth around with over 400 stone in my backpack without revealing myself.

I am more inclined to think it would be the sound the armor would make as it moves.  Leather armor would not make the amount of sound as plate-mail armor would.

 I did a very minor and quick test. At 90 real stealth wearing 135 weight mage armor (plate pieces) i no failed roughly 12 times. Maybe mage armor negates weight.

This was my understanding with mage armor.
But when I test the 75 stealth I would fail at some point.. with these items.. around ~82,5 I would stay stealth.. I round up to 85 stealth.
Pretty sure only thing that could have mess up with the test, was the wild life in Fel yew woods.. Things like tweety birds (wich I did not consider/ignored)


I got a mix of chainmail, plate, studded.. the rest is normal thief stuff..Like for the head it's the burglar cap/bandana.
