Ryuuma Mount and Draconic Pet Rewards

I'm not quite understanding all the loot and rewards as it pertains to pets/mounts.

First, I want the Ryuuma but I'm not certain if my character can use it. Is this an ethereal mount? I've read some stuff that leads me to believe that if I accept that reward that it will give me an egg that will hatch into a pet?? Then what? It says I use an Orb of ethereal transcendence on the egg and it will turn it into an ethereal mount.

Can anyone verify the process to get a Ryuuma ethereal mount? Does the ethereal mount still have 12% damage reduction bonus? Does the egg have a timer before it hatches or do I open the egg? If it hatches will it forever be a pet and I can't turn it into a ethereal mount? It doesn't say that GM taming is required. Can someone verify how that works if I'm not a tamer? If I keep it as a pet can I train it even without taming or does it work kinda like bushido and lesser hiryu?

Am I right in thinking that other dragon mounts/pets come in egg form from hidden chests and can be turned into ethereal mounts with the orb using it on the egg? Except that these don't have 12% dmg reduction. 

What is the dormant umbrascale egg?

Yes, not all vanity pet statuettes, but certainly the ones bought from Origin store.

You have the same opportunities to go to test as any it's time for you to do your part

Yep, about right. 

No matter, everyone is still pretty helpful. 

Being told to go to test center is not too rude and not super helpful but it was an idea I was not thinking about. So, if I couldn’t get the answer then that was definitely something I’d consider but I don’t know the efficiencies of the test center and it has the potential to be a waste if I go and find and test all of these answers and report back here only to have everyone say, “We know”.

I think asking a question to the community before using the test center falls under one of these work smarter not harder ideas, plus it gets documented for other players.

Think about UO. It literally has no real game manual. I’m pretty sure there are some macro commands that employees don’t even know what they do. The game is built around a community, inside and out. 

I think UO is decently populated but I’d love to see it super popular again but it likely won’t ever be because it is way too advanced for most gamers. 

Luckily, I do always have a pretty good interaction on the forums and in-game. Obviously, I am biased towards the best shard which is LS but I did start a character on Atlantic and was shocked at the people who seem to just hang out in Haven helping newbies.

@azuldemogogu The things is, the player that can really help usually do not share that stuff outside of their small circle.. on a game like UO knowledge is power. (PvP players)
Like on the forum, it was tamer like paiwan helping for tamer questions.. Just go read his take on Popps pack animal question (shadow hound)
You can tell Paiwan does not hang with the "good" crowd in game and has bad takes/answersss.

People helping usually the people that shouldn't help.. (mid tier players for mid answer)

The "good" crowd rarely share outside their "good" circle. Tiny mini problems (they do not want competition).. If they were really good.. their knowledge and science test would be made public.

This was like that 25 yrs ago and will be like that as long as human gonna have a human nature. Do your own test, soon enough they gonna come to you for answers.. This is what I would tell if the last paragraph was not a reality.. Legit could compete.

That logic is even use by the dev team.. CC/EC/cheat clients.. VERY recently they allowed one of the cheat client to go legit with a lot of limitations as a web client. (very very little; very very very late)
This is just not enough.. It's like giving the begin of an answer and stopping there.


All that to say.. go hang on the third party cheaters discord for your answers.

@KroDuK ; you have yet to post any pet you have made.  But you are an expert.  I build my pets the same way Cah and Playerskill do.  Are you also saying they do not know how to build a pet either.

There is a reason you build a base pet with:

Max Stamina, Max Dexterity, Max Str, Max Intel, 370.  Max HP and Mana regen. Stamina regen that fits the pet type. Resists that fit your target.  Then put on Max damage per second.

If you have a 5 slot pet that needs all that and you can not do it, I'm sure I made that pet and did it.
I can show you how, there is already a guide for it probably, unless its a Flappy.

Popps does not post for answers, he posts his wish list. He wants the game to work like he wants. 

The OPs question was asked and answered.  Popps posted what he wanted, and will give no effort to see if what he wants is already in the game or what the mechanics are.

Yall are arguing over a mechanic that is already in the game.

You need to account for pet damage is PvP is halved and UO rounds down when it comes to calculations.

At 61 or 70 resists anything 238 strength or above with be doing top damage unless you find a "unicorn" 275 strength one for pvm.  From what I know of Popps he does not PvP, if he did I think there would be many other posts on this forum~

Example of Shadow Hounds pre and post Grasping Claw in PvP:

For the Hit Point/Resists:

Example:

A 400 strength, 100 tactics, 100 anatomy attacker with 100 wrestling and 100 physical damage on two different resisted shadow hounds:

Shadow Hound A  190 hit points and 55% physical resists gets hit for 27-36

Shadow Hound B  160 hit points and 65% physical resists gets hit for 21-28

It would take 4 hits to for those resists on Shadow Hound B to outweigh the added hit points of Shadow Hound A.

On the mob in question above it would be an added 140-160 damage per minute (at a 50% hit rate, for these calculations I simplified and did not include parry chance) to Shadow Hound A vs Shadow Hound B.

There is a lot of nuance in the conversation regarding hit points and resists. There are things like environmental damage. You want enough hit points to keep the pack alive.

I agree there are basically 3 types of questions for forums;

1. Mechanics and game operations - dbl click this or context menu that, etc etc. I think at the core this is very problematic for UO to gain new users especially if there is a perceived advantage by veteran players to not share. But none of these should be secret because some of these issues may appear on the surface has a game bug to the inexperienced player. However, my experiences with GMs have been great.

2. Builds and templates - This appears to be what you guys are arguing over. I don’t have any taming experience so either of you would provide valuable information. Part of playing the game, for me, is hearing about something cool and trying it. My overall play style will dictate what I stick with and what I discard. I don’t think many things in this category are dichotomous such as just right and wrong. 

3. Wish list - I think forums can have a fair amount of game changing requests. Even when UO first came out, that was a lot of the appeal that the game can be updated and modified on the fly. Not much was doing that in 97. Properly vetted suggestions from the community can be invaluable in making the game really cool.

yup i just tested it myself and ya first try resed my own pet with no vet or healing skill, all these years of begging for pet reses and now i find this out, where is UO guide for Dummies when ya need one?

a word of warning, it only works in Trammel, not Malas, not Ilsh etc, only tram.

I'd view the pet at a Paraoxy or the Ozy Bird from the Tok event... it's just a rideable pet to reduce damage (without using armor); it's not meant to tank anything.

It's my understanding that the Ryumma is intended as a warrior's mount rather than a tamer's pet. Offering, as it does, 12% damage reduction to the rider. The Juvenille Umbrascale is the fighting pet for tamers?

It is a 1 => 1 pet so no training to my knowledge. it's already maxed in wrestle, tactics, and resist. i'll probably let it and my beetls beat on each other to get Parry and Anat up so it can at least survive against mongbats when I get dismounted.

The ryuuma mount statue can NOT be transformed into an ethereal mount using the orb of transcendence.
