Very discouraged with event stealables / rares

I now have over 1000 drops from Hidden Chests for this event. I have played every available moment. I've gotten friends who had stopped playing to do the event. A rideable dragon and the rare stealable drake statues really really got me stoked for this event.

However, I initially found and stole 2 of the drake statues. But the the last 2 I have been unable to steal with 120 stealing. Both times I kept trying and dying over and over until the chests poofed. And in the hundreds of chests and maps and bosses I've done so far, I have not seen a single Mature Egg for the rideable dragon. I heard of a player getting one on Baja during the first pub, and I saw one on Atlantic at the bank.

I'm really losing heart. I think very very few people have played as much as me this far. And I'm already worried it will be like last event. I busted my tail all event last time and never got a prism on Siege (my main shard) nor did I ever find more than one stealable crystal.

Don't think I can grind out another few months and just end up with nothing again. Please look at the success rate for stealing from chests and the drop rate on Mature Eggs in Nest maps and chests.

Disappointing because I want many of those pets, and I don't like chest hunting. I have to spend 20 drops for 1 chance to get one from a nest. Was hoping to buy them.

Small question, how much of your stealing skill is 'real'. I don't know if it makes any difference, but knowing might help the devs in their checks

My real skill in stealing is 90, with rest on jewels I make (siege suit). 120 real skill has not been necessary in the past and I stole 2 of the 4 this event using 90 real + 30 jewels. If it has been changed so that 120 real is required that destroys my template on siege (because remove trap is required since I cant telekinesis chests or take damage from popping it manually).

I SURE HOPE that there is NO REQUIREMENT WHATSOEVER for the Stealing skill to be "real" in order to perform succesful steals because these Rogues Templates are way too demanding for too many skills many of which (Detect Hidden, Remove Trap, Lockpicking, Hiding etc.) do NOT have items that carry skill points on them.

Therefore, it becomes seriously difficult to have more that a few points of Stealing to be real if one is mandated to have as real skill points the various Detect Hidden, Remove Trap, Lockpicking, Hiding etc. etc. because there are no items out there that have them...

Please, @Kyronix , make sure that there is ZERO need to have stealing be real points for it to work and make sure that any and all stealing points, whether on items or real, contribute equally to the stealing success.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly about the spawn rate for Mature eggs to be increased significantly, at least when high Luck is worn. Players go out of their way to raise Luck on their suits sometimes giving up much needed properties necessary for survival and seeing how then, even when wearing very high Luck at the cost of making serious compromises and endangering their characters' survival, it helps nothing to increase the success rate at getting Mature eggs or other rares to spawn, this is a serious bummer and can really risk driving players away from enjoying playing UO.

She've showned you a template with 120 real stealing not long ago, that demolish your points.

But, I totally agree, it would be very dumb to have stealable that requires real skill.. like very very.. you create a problem (heretic bribe).. find a better solution/design.

At the cost of lower Luck, though ... and no Ninjitsu so no ability to use smoke bombs or to be able to use the Shadow Mastery which makes it harder to get unhidden by MoBs (which is fundamental for a Template that has basically no fighting ability whatsoever, given the skills necessary to have...).

No Resisting Spells either... simply no room for this skill...

The Rogue Template is not a Fighter, it is a character that moves, acts and performs in the dark, hidden, stealthing.

Getting revealed means getting killed, it is as simple as that.

And Magery for this particular Template demands Protection since the casting of the invisibility spell cannot risk getting interrupted as this would mean certain death. Yet, having Protection on means a very, very slow casting of the spell during which, without having any Resisting Spells, can mean getting poisoned which would then interrupt the Invisibility spell, ask for an Arch Cure spell (slow because of Protection on) and then another Invisibility slow spell.... and this only to then risk getting poisoned again...

Bottom line is, the playability of this particular Template should be focused at it staying hidden, stealthing, whatever happens around it.

Forcing a Rogue to have to have real stealing skill in order to "exist" to me would sound as absurd because it would force the character to have to become even more fragile as it already is, unable to stay in the dark, move in the dark, acti in the dark. "Dark" meaning, "hidden".

Stop flattering Mariah ego.. she's not that skilled of a thief.

If she can stay alive while stealing in a luck suit with such template during the event, you can as well! I believe in you!

I get revealed. I stand still and hit my 'hide' macro, quite often the mob didn't even notice. If I can't hide, I hit my 'invis >target self' macro. Sometimes I'm revealed again, so I hit the macro again and then walk out of the way, hitting my hide macro as soon as I'm clear. What I do not do, is run. That works for me more often than not and the last time I died it was because remove trap failed. The only time it's done that.

This is just like any other template out there for any other event.... you have to make choices about how you go about doing it for whatever works best for you. To be clear, THERE ISN'T A SOLUTION THAT INVOLVES YOU GETTING EVERYTHING. Read that again.

As many others have said, you can either go with a suit that is heavily skilled or heavily luck OR a mix of both with less extreme values; THERE IS NO MAX SKILL AND MAX LUCK SUIT OPTION. In the event 120 real skill stealing is needed then you need to tailor the template. I personally have like 30 stealth on my thief so using a luck suit completely removes my ability to stealth around....I will use a luck suit when the space isn't super busy and I can cast invis.

Bottom line; build a template/suit based on what you are good at doing (and don't mind doing it). For what it's worth, as mentioned in a few other posts, I do not think that luck suits give that much of a bump to getting the rare stealables (I used one all last event to test and got zero stealables) so I opt for the skills on my suit.

Good tips, I was losing it a shadow mastery "fundamental"

I was like.. B.... I don't even own time of legends and was stealing last time they had hidden chest during their heretic event.. plus it was filled with paragon.

He was clever enough to activate protection, but I doubt this is helping him here.. it might do the opposite.. you won't fizzle that invis, but like Mariah point it out, u might get revealed again and start running.
You just losing faster casting (ex: you've been poisoned twice recently + need to hide)

Like Keven saying.. you should start with a skill suit.. just drop stuff for luck as u get better/earn experience, till the point u don't enjoy it or it's too hard.

I was hit yesterday by this "no steal" issue, whatever it might be caused by...

It was my first Dragon effigy... took me long, very long before one showed up in a chest, yet, even with 120 stealing (with items since the skills necessary for gameplay and survival are way too many to fit within the 720 skill points CAP), I could not steal it... and then the chest went "poof" taking the effigy with it... one can imagine how this was unpleasant towards my enjoyment of playing the game... who knows how long it will be now before I get the RNG to decide to make another effigy show up in the hidden chests that I am doing...

@Kyronix , please, can you look into this and make sure that this does not happen ?

It is very frustrating to go through days and days of gameplay to finally see a stealable rare in the hidden chest and, yet, then fail to steal it even when having, of course with items since there is too many skills with this template to have to account for in between necessary gameplay skills and skills needed for survival), 120 stealing skill.

Also, it would be nice if the chests having a stealable rare will get a "bonus" persistance timer to stay around for longer before the chest disappears... they are not a chest like others and, therefore, they should not be decaying as fast as the other chests that do not contain anything to be stolen. Thank you.

In the EC to improve your odds of not getting killed when stealing use a macro such as
Stealing Skill
Delay 0.5
Invisibility Potion

The targeting cursor for the stealing skill is still active after you drink the invisibility potion and lets you select what you want to steal.

Question about that...

What is that reveals when doing the stealing ?

When one "hits the stealing macro key" thus before the actual steal is performed or, is it after the item is stolen or failed to be stolen ?

The reason for asking this is, that in the 1st instance then the use of the potion would remain... one would be invised and yet, be able to target the item to be stolen, steal it and remain invised thanking to having drunk the invisibility potion for its lasting effect.

Otherwise, if the case is the 2nd instance, that is, if the stealing reveal will take place when using the stealing cursor to target the item to be stolen (whether the steal is succesful or it fails) well, then I do not see how drinking that potion with a Delay of 0.5 and before the steal is actually excuted will help in staying hidden...

I just got my first effigy this morn shortly before "shard down". It was about the 20th chest I did in that session, did the usual detect, lockpick, the tele-k three times. When I opened chest, saw a big purple dragon which i tried to grab out of habit :0 Then I disarmed luck blade and shield then clicked steal tag - fail - message you have to be standing next to the item. So moved in, clicked steal and grabbed it and BoS'd it to bank! Usual chest, regs, gold, pots, egg bombs. My Luck was 2540. Real Steal 120. My template is Magery 120 (jeweled & +20 book equipped), 120 Steal, 100 Detect, 100 LPick, 100 Hide, 100 Ninja, 80 Stealth. Zero Eval so EV my only offense/Defense spell and the ninja skill allows me to "run" in tiger form while invisible as i search and gives me option to use egg bombs if revealed and the mirror image is great distraction if I get in a pinch as is the shadow leap.
