The first 3 are still up.  The ones that are off do not match the groups.

the shards have gone down multiple times since after 9pm ET

Europa and Drachenfels went offline with their scheduled server time. Drach came up for a little bit but is down again.

This unfortunately is not a good time  for getting responses. Hearing some wild rumors that I still cannot make sense- cloth, pvpers, wipe attempts, player caused. Sounds like a good time to get rest and let them sort things out  and discuss over morning coffee

2 options.

1. Their server migration is having a bumpy ride, I'd like to think it is this.

2. A malicious DDOS attack. I heard a rumour last week this may happen, and now it seems to be happening.

The shards that was supposed to have migration today, came back 10 min after server down and the Great Lakes and Chesapeake are MIA

I don't think it is directly related, as they have taken some of the freeshards down also over the last couple of weeks. But it could be painful, it has been for the freeshards apparantly.

Looks like the unofficial rat forums post also mentions some guy knowing a countdown to when the server goes down, but it was clearly just a giveaway countdown they were doing in their discord channel for a house or something lol. These unofficial forum guys... palmface truthfully is the unofficial retirement home of UO.

What more do you want exactly?

If it’s a DDOS, drawing more attention to it exposes a weakness and opens up more questions.

If it’s some deployment mistake, well, that’s embarrassing.

If it’s the result of some vendor or third party, why point the finger and expose some elements of your architecture?

The first is not out of the question. We will see if the server migrations help with things.

Hello, I was on Atlantic at roughly 10:00pm EST when it first went down in this series of server reboots.  I swapped to Chesapeake afterwards to continue PvP and that server went down 30-40 minutes later.

Not trying to be contrarian or anything, just want to make sure there is accurate information if a timeline will help solve the root cause.

Devs haven't made a claim one way or another. As already explained, they have no reason to announce that. Many users are making the claim, so they should at least attempt to back it up.

Here's something to consider: have any of the migrated servers been having issues? We've had what, Origin, Izumo, TC, and as of yesterday Baja, Lake Austin, Napa Valley. Any residents to those servers chime in?

Also, wonder if these servers will help with the ToT lag!

I can’t help but agree here.

Even a “We acknowledge the ongoing issue , and we apologize for the inconveniences caused by this.  We are continuing to work on resolving the issue” would be a good start.

Moving the end date of the event out a bit would also help.

It is totally unplayable not only because it goes down, unpredictably, all of a sudden (aside from the in-game freezes which of course make it not advisable to go hunting anything...), but because there is a time revert after it comes back up making spending time in those instances that the shard is up a total waste of time since there are chances that what one does in the game won't be saved...

Personally, I think that the Developers, becuase of all of this, should extend the deadlines for the Events' content...

do some research and you will learn about DDOS attacks, who, why etc. If this is one of them. I should be surprised that a vet player is unaware, but with you I am not

they were stable until last night.

Atlantic starting getting a little bit laggy about 11pm CT and then at 12:34 the shard went down. It stayed down about 30 mins and there was a small revert. Then it crashed a couple times after that. I'm not sure how long it was down after that.

Would be nice to know if UO went down of it’s own accord or if it had help.  Of the 100 other comments posted here see nothing really saying what actually happened.  Appreciated the login warning.  Maybe that would be a good place to provide an update.

They were beefing their server so the BOTdemic and frame skipping does less impact on their server/hardware/nfrastructure.. Legit helping them cheaters, so they won't impact the pleb that much on ATL.

Third parties have effectively taken over client development, with or without permission, while another dictates whether the servers get to be up or not.

My previous employer dropped two cloud providers because they oversold their capacities.  My employer eventually ended up building its own servers.

This has nothing to do with the server or the migration it is an attack a premeditated announced attack the developers need to communicate I'd suggest giving Atlantic players something non lethal to do until it's resolved..

The attacks started and succeeded before migration and continue after.

A cloud provider should have the capability to decrease the effect of a DDOS attack.

I just go with what the studio as been telling us.. adding with what I know I did a fair assumption.

Ban that client and that trouble gonna vanish.


PS: not only ATL had issues starting minus 3 hours their first migration.. most servers were offline... why right now; only ATL problem remains on recent hardware; more reliable with enhanced server perfomance?

Time will tell, maybe the producer gonna do some communication. 

PS: your logic also make 0 sense.. they migrated on most recent and better server depending on them.. how come they never get DDOS'ed before.. but now on the good stuff they does?

Hint: it felt like a protocal attack at minus 3 hours and now volumetric: "During a DDoS attack, a series of bots, or botnet, floods a website or service with HTTP requests and traffic. Supposing the studio been telling the truth.. it started on their old hardware and now affecting the good stuff.

This is the thing.. u need to work for BS and read between *snip/skip*.... the BOTS DDOSing their new and improved hardware was clearly sarcasm (for the new and improve hardware more reliable)... cuz they in fact were always DDOSing their own server doing tons of actions (sending heavy package on server) per seconds wich is why ATL was VERY laggy on their old hardware, during MAIN theme gated events, constellation is speaking too much..  😂

PS: all it took in places like NuJel'm to make the server lag on the old hardware was 12 bots frame skipping all over the place, under constellation, to have mini rollback and mobs not showing on screen.. u could hear them gets hit by them but nothing shows up.. I experienced it on Legends in early december.

Just find a person whose McDs shift ends a little while before the attacks start, that's the person doing it.  He is trying to extort UO.

The devs are not going to talk about this.  It is a crime in progress.

I'll pull a Nythrax card.. how come he never did that before on older hardware less perfomant?
How come he can does that now, on beef up server?
How come he waited 6 weeks later, to do his move? (after the 2-3 days constellation went offline?)

PS: anyone with a minimum skill can get access to the server status on the back end and read the peaks..

The other client has nothing to do with this, he started extorting free shards first. Some paid him.  One paid $300 for him to go away.

He has been doing this to others for over a year.

He waited for BS to migrate on beef up server to do it when he could have done it for the past 27? years..

Makes sense.. He could get hire and be paid thousand per day to do that kind of attack.. instead he does it for 2 weeks of work for 300 bucks and waiting for the official to migrate on the good stuff to attack it.. *smh*

Also, if u say cuz of me.. read the DDOS link i copy for nythrax.. the only option for actual problem is volumetric when it started as protocal on the old hardware.. so why waiting to go volumetric on the good stuff when u could have went proto on the old stuff YEARSSSS ago.. or just like 2 weeks ago middle of vacation.. if what Paiwan said would be true... plus he would have waited to do volumetric on the BEEF UP cloud provider??
