Can they be used on "named" items?
I've never tried and I think it's a sewing item if I remember rightly from my repairs.

Hmm, I read here it had 1lmc not 3 so assumed it was plate not studded.

It is samurai plate. I refined mine. Out of town, can't show a picture. Sorry I bought all the cheaper platemail ingredients before the event began.

Did he add polish to create malleable alloy?

I did that for him, maybe he just made a mistake and clicked wrong piece of armor.
