It's been about four months since the last newsletter, and the target date for NL Alpha is fast approaching. It's a bit concerning that we haven't seen any updates regarding NL or the Alpha.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but the silence is deafening
#1
Just wondering about this as well. Can we please get some solid information on NL and the alpha release? I think it's only fair for the fans.
#2
Next thing we know it's going to be a bi-quarterly Newsletter.  time will tell

IMO it doesn't even need anything about NL at this point. just any information about any future content/changes etc.

#3
I really hate being right
#4
One  thing I can guarantee the next newsletter will say, (6) accounts were actioned for Multi Clienting..it won't say that it will say  for Multi Boxxing, which is untrue, but at least Andy Warhol was right, and I"ll be famous for 15 minutes...
#5
No newsletter means there is nothing to say?  Plus, proofreading is hard.

I think quite a few do also. ;)

Probably be a newsletter around June  🙂
#8
But we need a newsletter now to tell us NL is not ready yet, even tho it is not supposed to be ready.

I play quite a few games. I don't even know if any of those have newsletters.

I'll expand this to, probably will be a newsletter when NL is ready for first stage of testing. No NL newsletter? It's not ready yet.

  1. No Posting In Breach Of Games’ Terms of Service - You must not post, or link to materials that are, in breach of the games’ Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Advertisement or promotion of unofficial servers.
    2. Information on exploits of bugs in sufficient detail to allow others to perform said exploit.
    3. Cash sales of in game items.

Most games don't have newsletters but DO have other means of communication used by the developers, most notably posting on their forums, blog posts, or vlogs. UO has none of these and has chosen the newsletter as a form of player communication. So while you're comment is technically correct that most games don't post newsletters, it's disingenuous to the actual point of this post.

Regarding your comment that NL isn't supposed to be ready yet, so there is no reason to post is also skewing the point. First, NL Alpha is supposed to start middle of the year. That's pretty much anytime between June and July; information should need sharing ahead of that Alpha. Second, most games being worked on today keep some type of developer log. It is expected communication.

Frankly, you're being intentionally obtuse.

Seriously, when they have one they will let us know. The fact they have is a date makes a deadline. The team is very small and who knows if they will make that.

Roadmap 1.
NL goes to testing, they concentrate on that for as long as it takes. Perm shards get a couple of Dynamic events.

Roadmap 2.
NL  does not make it to testing, it is delayed. They keep working on that. Perm shards get a couple of Dynamic events.

I'm not an obtusist I am a realist.

The poster replied to me. So I replied back. No one has replied to you until now, so how bout you stop posting the same things over and over, no one replies to your posts, you have to just keep posting the same things in every thread even tho no one cares enough to acknowledge your opinion.

But you can't resist trolling me, so Lets do a countdown timer for your reply that will add nothing to this topic.

It's a discussion that usually takes some back and forth in communication instead of just yelling out into the void and declaring yourself the winner of the topic. While I think Pawain is an apologist and obtuse, it doesn't mean that I'm not interested in hearing their position on the issue.

It seems I am right a lot. Have they answered anything here recently?  Who keeps saying they wont?? That would be me.

I am not defending them. I am smart enough to see they do not answer things that do not affect logging into the game. Or accessing your account Can we still log in and access our accounts. Yes.

Keep me out of your posts and I won't reply. You could not stop trolling for 20 mins. How long before you post again with nothing related to the topic? 10 mins?

The last thing mentioned in the newsletter was the festival of summer solstice. I suspect there will not be another newsletter until very close to, or after, that event. That's only my logic/guesswork though.

I don't see NL coming soon at all. Why even bother, you know very well, that even if they do release anything, will be bugged like crazy, I mean, do you really trust the quality control that we have now?? I mean, seriously ask yourselves.

Yes. Looks like it is at the Casino.  We will get a newsletter for that. The year is flying by, that will be soon if it out on the day.

I liked the 25th anniversary party on Origin. Would be nice to have booths with the GMs and minions. Logistics nightmare unless it's just on one server.

I'm actually curious. Has there been a time where change or anything came from people posting in the forums? Or is this just really a place for all UOer's to vent a little bit?

If not, then where do we voice our concerns for this game where we can get an actual response? It's gotten to the point where even r/ultimaonline doesn't even think Broadsword's UO is even a contender compared to some of the other UO offerings.

Yes the devs have made changes from reading feed back on post here.
none I have asked for like adding the year of the vet rewards back to the menu like the old gump had before the change or making BGs fishing pole have at luck on it... but thats just my request I have seen them make changes. go to the test center forums when new pubs are about to be released and give constructive feed back how/what youd like see/or happen...

The fact that the developers do read what's posted here and choose to ignore it just makes it more offensive take baja and the lag/reverts why no comments?? If it was Atlantic or even one of the Asian shards there'd be a log in screen announcement

You get an actual response by exercising the true power we have as subscribers and unsubscribe your account. That's what kills me about most of the complains on this forum and the endless pages of nonsense about "accountability." You can't hold them accountable by non-stop complaining while still paying for the product.

I think the team is well aware that every single person complaining on these forums are a paid subscriber. You cannot post here otherwise. And so for as mad as these people seem to be all the time, they're still paying for the privilege of being mad.

The game is obviously still meeting whatever metric EA cares about, whether its a set amount of money brought in every month, a set number of minimum subscribers, a set number of use per active account, or some combination there in.

With that in mind, how mad are these people here? Are they *mad* enough to unsubscribe and let their houses fall? Mad enough to walk away and let their accounts no longer accrue subscription time for vet rewards? Mad enough to actually do the one thing that could make change in the game?

Or do they just want to complain?

This 'dark lady' stuff is nonsense. Bonnie Armstrong is a person employed to produce a product. You can disagree with her direction but don't frame your issues with the game in such personal terms. You and Broadsword operate under a financial agreement. There are no "winners" and "losers" here. You either continue to pay for the product or you don't.

Further more.. the game is going to close one day. Your 20+ years won't matter for anything when the login servers are shut off. The only thing you can hold onto when the game closes is the relationships with people you forge and the memories you choose to prioritize. Both of these things have absolutely nothing to do with how you may feel about Bonnie Armstrong.

Some bosses throw employees under the bus, I have never seen her blame the actual developers or coders for the things people complain about in UO.  Glad that has not been her approach.

Just like normal people do not pay for things they do not like, especially when it is for a non necessity, employees tend not to stay at a job they do not like, her team has been around since 2012?  The ones that matter seem to think she is doing a good job.

Well, I certainly appreciate you all completely derailing the thread here.

It's reasonable to expect consistent communication regarding the current status and future roadmap. That being said, it is unreasonable to expect that communication to answer every whim of a question or ultimately be accountable to your expectations. I don't expect the bus driver to go where I tell them to, but I do expect some indicator of where we're at on the route.

The people in this thread on both ends of the extreme of the conversation seem more interested in fighting each other and seeing who can yell the loudest to prove their right. You're both a large part of the problem with the game's current state.

You've hit the nail on the head with your observation about the frustrating pattern of communication (or lack thereof) from Broadsword. It's disheartening when players have genuine questions or concerns, but the developers remain silent, leaving us in the dark.

It's understandable that Broadsword have a lot on their plate, but taking a moment to acknowledge and respond to player inquiries goes a long way in fostering a positive and engaged community. When developers choose to ignore these concerns, it creates a breeding ground for disgruntlement and frustration.

Players begin to feel like their voices don't matter, their concerns are insignificant, and their investment in the game is unappreciated. This can lead to a growing sense of disillusionment, causing some players to lose interest and move on to other games.

Friendly communication is key to building trust and keeping players engaged. Developers need to recognize the importance of transparency and actively address player questions and concerns. Even if they don't have all the answers or cannot fulfill every request, a simple acknowledgement can make a world of difference.

A little communication goes a long way in fostering a healthy and thriving community. I just wish Broadsword would understand this. They know about this too, because in a couple of their stream for the NL announcements they mention to keep things civil.

If this is what you truly believe, and that all of your posts in regards to developer/producer communication with the customer has proven fruitless, then you should try another approach.

Here is a suggestion or two for you, @Grimbeard ;

1. Use this forum to organize a letter writing campaign.  Use USPS, not email.  Define what you think your letter should be and organize players to send the letter to BS.
2. If you are an investor in EA (or not) send letters to investor relations detailing what you see the issues to be.

You can be the hero.

I've been doing some thinking on the communication for UO (mainly because I have nothing in game to actually keep me busy).

I do think it's unrealistic to expect the Devs to send out a communication about what's up next like the day after the previous event ends, but I also think that something within a week or two would be in order given that we haven't heard anything about the game since the previous event launched (over 2 months ago). This isn't the current trend of the Devs though... we usually go weeks/months before getting an update. To be clear, I'm not saying the next event should start a week after the last one ends (although I wouldn't have minded it this time since I didn't play the last event given there was nothing new); just give us an update of when to expect the next thing to do and what we can expect.

Surely the Devs are not just now planning what our next event will be when they've had the past 2 months to figure it out while the Spring event was taking place (if so, that's a huge problem) so they should have this information. We are also in the 6th month of the year and the last newsletter we received was Jan 20th so what better time than the present to give us a newsletter with a roadmap for the rest of the year.

Below is frequency of the Newsletter over the past 2.5 years.

2021 - 8 Newsletters. Very close to be a monthly cadence
2022 - 3 newsletters. Extreme decline and when a lot of people started complaining about communication.
2023 - On pace for 2, maybe 3 newsletters. Is there really nothing to update the player base on for 6 months? Is there actually that little is being done that there is nothing to communicate?
