On paperdoll my resistance
70

70
70
75
 In reality its
85
90
105
80
95
The actual value is correctly displayed on mannequin and seems to matter in damage taken

My understanding is that damaged is based on the cap; not actual. The only way to take less damage is to increase your cap via refinements.

Another part of my understanding is that our resists work similar to a pet (or monster) resist. If your fire resist was 100 that would be 100% resist to that damage; ie you would take 0 damage from 100% fire damage attacks.

Overcapping is used for things like corpse-proofing or vampire form etc.
